Harry Kane reveals thoughts on not wearing One Love armband at World Cup

Harry Kane has discussed his disappointment at not being allowed to wear the 'One Love' armband during England's opening World Cup game with Iran, stating that he wasn't given a say in the matter.

The Three Lions kickstarted their 2022 World Cup campaign in emphatic fashion on Monday, thumping Iran 6-2 thanks to goals from Raheem Sterling, Jude Bellingham, Jack Grealish, Marcus Rashford and a brace from Bukayo Saka.

Much of the talk before and after the game, however, revolved around England opting not to don the 'One Love' armband in fear of footballing sanctions from FIFA - with the most likely punishment reported to have been Kane being booked immediately for wearing it.

England, and the other nations who have since re-negged on wearing the armband, have come under heavy criticism for bending to FIFA's will on the matter.

Speaking after Monday's win, Kane gave his thoughts on the matter, stating: "Yeah, I think we were disappointed.

"I think I said yesterday we wanted to wear it but that decision was taken out of my hands today. I turned up to the stadium with the armband that I did wear and I was told I had to wear that.

"Look, it’s out of our control as players. I’m sure the FA and FIFA will continue those discussions but most importantly today we focused on the game and got a great result."

"You’ve seen over the last five years we’ve made a stand as a squad and we’ll continue to do that as much as we can. We took the knee today but sometimes these decisions aren't up to us and that's the bottom line."
