Alphonso Davies transfer 'still possible' during summer window
- Bayern Munich make decision over Alphonso Davies future
- Left-back has contract offer on the table
- Real Madrid heavily linked with transfer in recent months
Bayern Munich could still sell Real Madrid target Alphonso Davies this summer after deciding not to offer the left-back an improved contract.
As it stands, Davies is on course to be a free agent next summer when his current contract expires. Talks in recent months have yet to yield an agreement over a fresh deal, with the player's camp and Bayern too far apart in their respective negotiating positions.
Hoping to reflect his status as one of the best full-backs in the world, Davies will reportedly ask for as much as €20m per season, compared to Bayern's best offer of €13m. His current terms were signed way back in 2020, before he had won the Champions League.
But Bayern honorary president Uli Hoeness warned last month that the club would not offer the player 'any more money' and would allow his contract to expire if he refuses to renew a deal.
That stance appears to be a firm line in the sand that will shape the next stage of this saga. Journalist Maximilian Koch says Bayern have decided they won't offer an improved contract, leaving Davies to decide whether he wants to accept it or not.
But rather than allow the 23-year-old to run down his contract and leave without a transfer fee – as was previously rumoured – a summer sale is "still possible".
Real Madrid are the club most heavily linked with Davies. But the reigning European champions have already gone big in the market with captures of Kylian Mbappe – in wages and signing bonuses rather than a transfer fee – and Endrick.
They have previously been unwilling to offer more than a lowball figure for Davies, which was also their strategy with Leny Yoro before being blown out of the water by Manchester United, while current starting left-back Ferland Mendy is expected to sign a new contract of his own.
Other clubs have shown interest in Davies but were sceptical about their chances of securing a deal. 90min reported towards the end of last year that Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea all had the Canadian on their radar, although with reluctance to mount a formal approach due to the belief that his heart is set on ultimately joining Real Madrid.
