Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has insisted his side were so dominant in Sunday's 3-0 win over Manchester United that the Red Devils simply could not cope with the pressure.

Brennan Johnson put Spurs ahead inside three minutes at Old Trafford and the away side did not let up, further establishing their dominance when Bruno Fernandes was sent off for a high challenge on James Maddison shortly before half-time.

While there was some controversy about the decision - Fernandes appeared to slip as he went to challenge Maddison and the contact made, while high, was not particularly dangerous - Postecoglou argued the incident was indicative of the story of the game as a whole.

"Their red card is a consequence of our dominance, we put them under so much pressure, they couldn't really get out of their half," the Spurs boss told club media. "We probably should have been out of sight by that stage with the chances we had, but even after that, against ten men, I still felt we controlled the game really well.

"There is no doubt we deserved that victory."

Postecoglou continued: "It was a great win, but an even better performance. I thought the lads were outstanding today, from the first minute they were at it, really aggressive without the ball, positive with the ball, won our duels, aggressive in everything we did. I'm just super proud of the boys' efforts."

A quick glance at the stats sheet backs up Postecoglou's claims. Spurs finished with 61% possession and 24 shots on goal, ten of which were on target, and nine big chances. United, on the other hand saw just two of their 11 efforts hit the target and failed to test Guglielmo Vicario in the Spurs goal beyond the 26th minute.
