Real Betis sporting director Manu Fajardo has suggested the club will only be able to pursue a permanent deal for Manchester United winger Antony if they successfully qualify for next season's Champions League.

Having struggled horribly across his three seasons with United, Antony joined Betis on loan in January and has quickly settled in, racking up four goals and as many assists in 11 appearances across all competitions.

The deal does not include the option for a permanent transfer, although Betis CEO Ramon Alarcon recently claimed Antony is keen to remain with the La Liga side beyond this season. For that to happen, however, Betis may need European football.

"In Betis' sporting department, we work on 'devalued' players, analysing data from players who have reached very high moments and peaks, but who for various reasons have significantly decreased their performance," Fajardo told MARCA. "We are concerned about their situation and speak with major clubs.

"In his case, we were able to anticipate and convince the player and his entourage. Today, Antony is performing immediately from minute one in the squad.

"We haven't lost our enthusiasm, we can't rule out anything in football, and hopefully Real Betis will remain in the top European positions to benefit his continuity and the arrival of other great players."

Betis currently sit sixth in La Liga, good enough for a spot in the Europa League, for which they could also qualify by winning the Conference League. To reach the Champions League, they would have to close an eight-point gap to Athletic Club in fourth.

It was recently reported that Betis have already opened talks over another loan for Antony, but a permanent deal could hinge on the income that comes with European football as United plan to sell to the highest bidder.
