Arne Slot has admitted he is worried about a potential injury for Trent Alexander-Arnold after the right-back had to be substituted in the first half of the victory over Aston Villa.

Goals from Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah helped the Reds secure a 2-0 win at Anfield on Saturday night to take them five points clear at the top of the Premier League table, though the success was soured by a knock to one of their star players.

Alexander-Arnold had to come off in the 25th minute and manager Slot has revealed he does not expect the 26-year-old to be available for England's Nations League fixtures in the upcoming November international break.

Speaking after the win, the Dutchman revealed: "It's difficult to say how serious it is, but it's always serious if a player goes out in the first half. Not because I didn't like him, but because he asked for it himself.

"He didn't ask for it because he was tired, he asked for it because he felt something.

"That's first of all not a good sign, but it is always difficult so close after the game to tell you exactly what it is. Let's wait and see.

"I would be surprised if we will see him playing for the England national team this week, but hopefully he can."

Liverpool already have a number of injury concerns, with the likes of Alisson, Federico Chiesa, Diogo Jota and Harvey Elliott all currently sidelined. Alexis Mac Allister, who admitted the Reds are now firm Premier League title contenders after their latest victory, is also one yellow card away from a suspension.

Alexander-Arnold was included in interim manager Lee Carsley's squad for the upcoming clashes with Greece and the Republic of Ireland but the Three Lions will now have to assess the defender before deciding whether he can play in either game.
