Arsenal can reach the semi-finals of the Champions League for the first time 16 years when they visit Real Madrid in their quarter-final second leg on Wednesday evening.

Having put one foot firmly in the final four following their 3-0 victory over the holders during last week's first leg in north London, Arsenal must simply avoid an implosion to book their ticket to the next round.

Mikel Arteta was able to rest key personnel ahead of Wednesday's trip to the Santiago Bernabeu as the Gunners look to protect a healthy cushion, and several first-teamers should return to the starting lineup in the Spanish capital.

Here is how Arsenal could line up.

GK: David Raya - The 11-cap Spain international produced some important saves against Madrid during the first leg and will expect to be called upon regularly at the Bernabeu. Arsenal need a defiant display from their goalkeeper.

RB: Jurrien Timber - Timber did an admirable job keeping Vinicius Junior quiet at the Emirates Stadium but few get the better of the Brazilian twice in a row.

CB: William Saliba - Arsenal's towering centre-back has been linked with a move to Madrid but Wednesday's home crowd will want to witness a seldom-seen howler from the French giant.

CB: Jakub Kiwior - Gabriel's injury hasn't derailed Arsenal's campaign and the often unreliable Kiwior has supplied adequate performances in his absence. Madrid are still likely to isolate the Poland international and steer clear of his partner Saliba.

LB: Myles Lewis-Skelly - The precocious 18-year-old will need to produce another eye-catching display to keep livewire Rodrygo under wraps in Madrid. Disciplinary issues have been the only drawback during his fledgling career.

CM: Martin Odegaard - Odegaard will return to the Bernabeu wanting to punish his former employers in style. The Norwegian's only goal at the stadium came against Madrid during his loan spell with Real Sociedad.

CM: Thomas Partey - An injury scare threatened Partey's involvement in Wednesday's clash but the former Atletico Madrid midfielder is available to anchor the engine room on a return to Spain.

CM: Declan Rice - Rice was Arsenal's hero during the first leg with two stupendous free kicks and the Gunners will hope he can repeat such magic from set pieces in Madrid. He will have to keep tabs on compatriot Jude Bellingham, too.

RW: Bukayo Saka - Saka was a menace during the first leg without getting among the goals but he's looked remarkably sharp since returning from his lengthy spell in the treatment room. Good luck, David Alaba.

ST: Mikel Merino - Arsenal's unorthodox centre-forward scored against Madrid in the first leg, producing a clinical finish fitting of a natural number nine. It was his fourth goal against the Spanish behemoths.

LW: Gabriel Martinelli - Martinelli will aim to put makeshift right-back Federico Valverde under pressure at the Bernabeu with his blistering speed. The Brazilian was in confident mood during the first leg and will be key to Arsenal's counter-attacking success.
