Barcelona are considering a loan move for Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho following his impressive six-month spell at Borussia Dortmund, according to reports in Spain.

The 24-year-old spent a large portion of the 2023/24 season in the Bundesliga with Champions League finalists Dortmund after being exiled from United's squad by manager Erik ten Hag.

Sancho was sent back to his former club in the hope of reviving his career and made an immediate impression in Germany. But the deal did not include an option to buy, leaving the winger to return to Old Trafford at the conclusion of the deal.

With Ten Hag staying on as United's manager, it's increasingly unlikely that Sancho will be reintegrated into the squad, and recent reports suggested a £40m asking price had been set for clubs interested in agreeing a permanent transfer.

Spanish publication SPORT report that United actually offered Sancho to Barcelona a couple of months ago, in a proposed player exchange deal, but Barcelona were not interested at the time. However, with United not looking likely to sell any time soon, a potential loan deal could still be in the offing.

New manager Hansi Flick is said to be an admirer of Sancho's talents, though any business may be dependent on Barcelona shipping out Raphinha this summer. The report adds that sporting director Deco's preference would be to sign Luis Diaz from Liverpool, while the board's ideal signing would be Athletic Club winger Nico Williams - who has impressed for Spain at Euro 2024.

Dortmund and Juventus have both been put off by Sancho's asking price, potentially paving the way for Barcelona to make their move if a buyer can be found for Raphinha. The Brazilian has intimated that he has no desire to leave the club, but may have his hand forced by the club's ongoing financial struggles.

It's for that reason Barcelona would be interested in taking Sancho, as a loan fee and contribution to his wages would be a far more economical way of strengthening Flick's options. The Catalan giants could also look to cash in on Ferran Torres and Ansu Fati, the latter of whom is returning to the club after a disappointing season-long loan at Brighton & Hove Albion.
