Barcelona seemed to be heading into a prosperous new era with Xavi at the helm, but the relinquishing of their La Liga crown left the Spaniard with an uncertain future.

A topsy-turvy campaign ended with Barca in need of a successor for their league-winning coach and the club, with a clear plan in mind, quickly pivoted to former Bayern Munich and Germany manager Hansi Flick.

The first pre-season under a new manager is always exciting for supporters, but it's been a crucial period for Flick as he aims to guide Barca to the top of Spanish football again in 2024/25.

Here's what the club have been up to in pre-season.

Where did Barcelona go for 2024/25 pre-season?

Barcelona, like many of Europe's elite sides, travelled to the United States for a series of high-profile friendlies.

Barca played just three games in the States, with one of those coming against Clasico rivals Real Madrid in New York. MetLife Stadium, host of the 2026 World Cup final, staged the pre-season Clasico which Xavi's side won 3-0 last summer - that was not a sign of things to come.

On either side of the Clasico on 3 August, Barca faced perennial Premier League victors Manchester City in Orlando before battling Milan in Baltimore.

The club has now returned to Catalonia ahead of the start of the domestic campaign. On Sunday 11 August, Barca will host the Joan Gamper Trophy against AS Monaco.

Barca began their pre-season later than most European giants but gave a good account of themselves on Flick's unofficial debut in Orlando, holding Man City to a 2-2 draw before winning the resulting penalty shootout.

The Catalonians claimed Clasico bragging rights for the second successive summer as they downed Real Madrid 2-1 in New York. Striker Pau Victor scored both goals for Barca, with the 22-year-old forward making a strong claim to be involved with Flick's first team next season having starred for the reserves in 2023/24.

Their US tour concluded with another 2-2 draw, this time against Italian giants Milan in Baltimore. Despite falling two goals behind within the first 15 minutes, a Robert Lewandowski brace kept their unbeaten pre-season record intact. However, they did lose the subsequent penalty shootout with the Serie A side.

The clash with Ligue 1 outfit Monaco takes place on Monday 12 August and will be held at Barca's temporary home of Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys.
