Barcelona president Joan Laporta has confirmed he is not currently thinking about making a move for Bayern Munich midfielder Joshua Kimmich.

A new defensive midfielder is a top priority for Barcelona this summer as they continue their quest to adequately replace Sergio Busquets, and Kimmich has long been suggested as a potential signing, even before the arrival of former Bayern and Germany boss Hansi Flick at Camp Nou.

However, speaking to Barca One, Laporta revealed he does not expect Kimmich to join this summer.

"We are not thinking about adding Kimmich or [Martin] Zubimendi," he revealed. "We may have to reinforce the pivot position despite the great work [Andreas] Christensen has done.

"We will surely incorporate some other players, like Marc Casado. There are many Barca Atletic players who have relationships with the first team."

Casado, who turns 21 in September, has been a key figure for Barca Atletic in recent years and even managed four appearances for Barcelona's senior side last season, adding to the debut outing he made in the 2022/23 Champions League.

Cheaper signings and youth promotions appear to be the order of business for Laporta, who also named the two positions in need of reinforcements this summer.

"I don't think we will go for big names as we don't plan to sell our stars," Laporta said.

"We're looking for a new winger and a new midfielder. We also have our own talents who could cover those positions."
