Barcelona are expected to make space for the imminent signing of Bayer Leverkusen centre-back Jonathan Tah by listening to offers for Andreas Christensen, a report in Spain has claimed.
Tah publicly confirmed during the summer that he did not plan to renew his contract with Leverkusen, which expires at the end of the current season. Bayern Munich were in talks over signing him before the campaign began but, after talks collapsed, he became a target for Barcelona on a free transfer.
Towards the end of 2024, reports emerged stating a free switch to Barcelona for Tah was almost wrapped up. At that time, Ronald Araujo appeared to be the most likely casualty, but the Uruguay international has since signed a new contract running until 2031 to reaffirm his commitment to the club.
According to Relevo, that has opened the door to a departure for Christensen, who has fallen down the pecking order because of a serious injury that has kept him out of action since the opening weekend of the season.
Christensen's contract expires in 2026 and, as a high-earner following his free transfer from Chelsea three years ago, is a likely candidate for sale as Barcelona prepare to make space for Tah.
There have been significant links between Christensen and a number of Premier League clubs. Manchester United, Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur have all been linked with the Dane, who is seven appearances shy of 100 in the Premier League.
It is stressed that Barcelona's deal for Tah has not yet been finalised, but their cause was boosted by Bayern director Christoph Freund's recent admission that the Bundesliga leaders are unlikely to reignite their interest in the 29-year-old this summer.
"Tah's name is not in our thoughts now," Freund said. "Our defence is at a high level and it is not something that is on Bayern's table for next season."
