After a disappointing season, Barcelona head into the 2024/25 campaign with renewed hope.

Xavi has finally parted ways with the Catalan giants, being replaced by Champions League-winning former Bayern Munich coach Hansi Flick. With a heap of generational talent coming through La Masia too, there are reasons to be positive ahead of the new season.

As is usually the case for Barca, the summer transfer window will be busy. Their financial difficulties makes deals difficult to finalise but they will be desperate to strengthen their squad and offload some of their deadwood.

Here are the Barcelona squad numbers for the 2024/25 campaign.

Barcelona's squad is already stacked with world-class talent, with plenty of the club's academy stars already donning famous shirts. Pedri has taken over Andres Iniesta's fabled number 8 jersey, while Gavi has inherited Xavi's number 6 - which has seemingly been cursed since the ex-Barca manager's departure as a player.

However, there will be movement for other young players like Lamine Yamal and Pau Cubarsi, who will need to be registered with a number between 1 and 25 when they become part of the first-team squad next term. Yamal currently wears number 27, while Cubarsi dons 33.

There are some interesting umbers available to new signings, of which there are likely to be a few in Catalonia. While Lionel Messi's number 10 jersey is technically free as things stand, it will be reclaimed by Ansu Fati - who spent last season on loan at Brighton - if he is not sold this summer.

The expiration of Joao Cancelo's loan means the number 2 is free for any incoming defenders, with the Manchester City man potentially returning to Barca on a permanent basis this summer. Joao Felix has also vacated the number 14 shirt with his loan coming to an end, while the departures of Marcos Alonso and Sergi Roberto mean 17 and 20 are available.

What numbers can La Liga players wear?

Long gone are the days when football teams would line up number 1 to 11, with plenty of options available to the modern pro. However, in La Liga, rules are a little stricter than elsewhere.

Each club's 25-player 'A squad' must wear shirts numbered one to 25 and players from the reserve team will be awarded numbers between 26 and 50 should they break into the first team during the season. First-team goalkeepers must wear number 1, 13 or 25.

Can La Liga players change squad numbers?

La Liga players cannot change their numbers once the final squad list is confirmed after the end of the summer transfer window. However, up until that point, they can swap numbers with teammates or change to a vacant number.
