Barcelona are hoping to secure the signature of Spanish star Nico Williams this summer but are reported to be worried about having to fend off interest from both Arsenal and Chelsea.

Euro 2024 winner Williams has become one of the hottest topics of the summer transfer window after impressing on the international stage in Germany. The 22-year-old fired his nation ahead just minutes after the second half resumed in Sunday's final, helping to guide Spain to European success.

Barca remain keen on prying the winger away from Athletic Club, but may have to fight other top European sides for his signature. Reports from Fabrizio Romano reveal that the Spanish giants have worries over Arsenal and Chelsea, who could also offer Williams a deal this summer.

He said: "Barca want to go for Nico Williams. Barca want to be fast because they know that the English top clubs, Chelsea, Arsenal, are keeping close eye to the situation of Nico.

"They don't want to pay that big money of release clause, the commission, salary, so Barca want to win this race on the timing. They want to be faster and Barca are prepared starting from next week to advance and push on this deal."

Barcelona are reluctant to trigger Williams' release clause, believed to be around £50m, but could look to strike a deal over a payment plan which would allow them to spread the fee over several years.

Such a fee is unlikely to be a problem for either Arsenal or Chelsea, although 90min understands the Blues' primary concern about a move for Williams concerns his wage demands.

Chelsea are keen to avoid handing out huge salaries and believe signing Williams would go against their current wage structure unless he lowers his demands.

Williams may prefer a move to Barca to remain in Spain and formulate a partnership with wonderkid Lamine Yamal. The Catalans will hope to recreate Williams' and Yamal's partnership for their national team if they are able to tempt him with a move to Barca, forming a vital duo as they attempt to knock Real Madrid off La Liga's top spot.
