Alphonso Davies' 94th-minute strike saw Bayern Munich avoid a potential upset against Celtic as they advanced to the Champions League knockout stages following Tuesday's 1-1 draw.

Bayern started strong and could have easily opened the scoring on a number of occasions inside the opening ten minutes, but Celtic did have their own sights of goal and Callum McGregor was left frustrated not to make more of a smart opening after just seven minutes.

Nicolas Kuhn saw an effort cleared off the line and Daizen Maeda drilled wide soon after, with Celtic missing two of the game's best opportunities early on. Harry Kane hit the crossbar for Bayern who, while still ahead on aggregate, were clearly unhappy with how things were going when the referee blew for half-time.

Celtic focused more on defending after the restart and that ramped up to the next level after former Bayern man Kuhn gave the Scottish side the lead on the night by taking advantage of some woeful defending from the Bundesliga giants shortly after the hour mark.

Leon Goretzka should have restored Bayern's advantage 15 minutes later, but the midfielder could only send his header trickling agonisingly wide of Kasper Schmeichel's post. Leroy Sane followed suit soon after, fizzing his effort beyond the frame of the goal.

With just seconds remaining in stoppage time, Celtic's resolve was finally broken. Schmeichel saved a header from point-blank range from Joshua Kimmich but could do nothing about the rebound, which was bundled over the line by a fortuitous Davies with almost the final kick of the game to tie things up on the night and secure a 3-2 victory on aggregate.
