Bayern Munich, Liverpool & Man Utd dealt blow by club chief ruling out transfer

Stuttgart director of sport Fabian Wohlgemuth emphatically ruled out any summer transfer for midfielder Angelo Stiller, who has attracted interest from a glut of clubs across the continent.

The progressive holding midfielder caught the eye while helping Stuttgart finish second in last season's Bundesliga table - the club's best campaign since they won the top flight in 2007. Stiller earned his first senior international call-up for Germany this season as he continues to impress.

Bayern Munich, Stiller's former employers and boyhood club, are thought to be interested while Premier League giants Liverpool and Manchester United have both been linked. However, Stuttgart's Wohlgemuth is adamant that his 23-year-old gem isn't going anywhere.

"That is not an issue that is currently on our agenda," Wohlgemuth told BILD this week. "The player has committed himself to VfB without any ifs and buts and we know exactly what we have in Angelo. And that is exactly the end of the matter."

Stiller extended his contract until the summer of 2028 as recently as January, but there are concerns that he could be tempted away. The pull of Bayern is particularly potent for the Munich-born midfielder. If Joshua Kimmich does let his contract expire in the summer, which is becoming an increasing reality, Stiller would serve as an ideal replacement.

The defensively-minded midfielder scored his first goal of the season against Bayern last Friday and felt compelled to offer his public regret after the match. "I would like to apologise to the Bayern fans for cheering after my goal," the former Bayern Munich academy player said. "That is not appropriate."

There is no emotional connection with Liverpool or Manchester United, although the financial incentive may be even more persuasive. Arne Slot's Premier League leaders offer plenty of obvious appeal and were heavily interested in signing a defensive midfielder last summer, only to be snubbed by Real Sociedad's Martin Zubimendi.
