Bayern Munich honorary president Uli Hoeness has revealed they have given Alphonso Davies an ultimatum, confirming they will let his contract expire if he chooses not to sign an extension this summer.

Davies, who first joined Bayern in 2019, made 42 appearances across the 2023/24 campaign as the team's top choice left-back. He currently has less than 12 months left on his contract, with the defender's deal set to expire in June 2025.

Real Madrid have long been admirers of Davies' talents and still view him as a vital signing to complete their backline. As per reports, Bayern will expect a fee of around €50m for the player, but Madrid are adamant they will not pay such a fee for a player who is available for free in 12 months.

Bayern honorary president Hoeness has made his feelings very clear on the situation, handing Davies an ultimatum to scope out his next career move.

"We told him very clearly that if he does not renew his contract, we will let it expire," Hoeness vowed. "We will not offer him any more money."

Hoeness also took a surprising swipe at Davies as he compared the Canada international to Barcelona winger Lamine Yamal.

"The way [Yamal] does it - left and right. I wish Alphonso Davies could do that too," Hoeness added.

Madrid remain happy to wait to sign Davies on a free transfer next summer and are now expected to focus on tying Frenchman Ferland Mendy down to a new contract as he enters the final 12 months of his own deal.

The Frenchman made 37 appearances for Madrid last season, netting one goal in the Supercopa de Espana.
