Celtic are in need of a mini-miracle if they're to progress into the Champions League round of 16 at Bayern Munich's expense.

The runaway Scottish Premiership leaders came close to the perfect start to their play-off tie against the Bavarian behemoths, with Bayern settling after Nicolas Kuhn had a first-minute opener ruled out for offside.

Goals from Michael Olise and Harry Kane thrust the visitors into an imperious position amid a commanding display, but Daizen Maeda's instinctive finish has handed Celtic a glimmer of hope.

Tuesday's visitors were victorious at the weekend as they thrashed Dundee United 3-0 to edge closer to confirming title glory, while Bayern failed to record a single shot on target in their stalemate with Bayer Leverkusen. Vincent Kompany's side suffered at the home of the champions, but a 0-0 draw leaves them eight points clear at the summit.

The Bundesliga leaders haven't lost a Champions League home game since April 2021.

Kompany made a couple of bold selection calls in Leverkusen on Saturday, with summer signing Hiroki Ito making his first start for the club at left-back. Raphael Guerreiro should return to the starting XI on Tuesday.

The hosts are likely to be without Daniel Peretz and Alphonso Davies for the second leg, but midfielder Joao Palhinha could be involved after recovering from an illness which has seen him miss Bayern's previous three games.

Leon Goretzka and Serge Gnabry are contenders to come back into Kompany's team.

Rodgers made a few changes to his starting XI at the weekend, although the in-form Adam Idah was among those who kept their place. The Irishman was on the scoresheet again in Celtic's 3-0 victory.

Daizen Maeda will return to the visitors' frontline with Idah and Nicolas Kuhn, while Alistair Johnson earned a breather on Saturday.

There hasn't been much change on the injury front since last week's first leg. Celtic are once again without James Forrest and Paulo Bernardo.

Bayern Munich vs Celtic score prediction

Celtic had to secure a result in Glasgow to have any chance of making it through this tie. While Maeda's goal at least gives them a semblance of hope, their task is monumental on Tuesday night.

They were thumped 7-1 by Borussia Dortmund on their previous visit to Germany and mustered just a couple of points on their travels during the league phase. We've seen far superior teams succumb in Munich over the years, and Bayern will be expected to coast on Tuesday despite their dreary performance on Saturday.

Celtic should show enough resistance to prevent a proper battering, but the hosts are likely to win at a canter.

Prediction: Bayern Munich 4-1 Celtic
