Borussia Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl has admitted he will do "everything" to try keep Manchester United loanee Jadon Sancho beyond this season.
Sancho put on the best performance of his second Dortmund stint to date as he tormented Paris Saint-Germain in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final but faces an uncertain future as his loan contract approaches its end.
There is no purchase clause in Dortmund's agreement with United so the two clubs will have to negotiate a fresh deal and reports suggest Dortmund may not have the financial strength needed to strike a permanent deal for Sancho.
However, Dortmund are not giving up without a fight as Kehl confirmed they are ready to make a significant effort to retain Sancho's services.
"We will of course try everything," Kehl said. "I can't say anything more about it at the moment
"Manchester United also sees how well he is playing at the moment. Maybe they have their own ideas or want to sell him for a profit. Maybe he will even return to Manchester. These are all things that lie in the future."
Sancho has done his best to avoid discussing his long-term future and declined to address the subject after Dortmund's victory over PSG.
"I came here at 17, they gave me the opportunity to play professional football and I am delighted to be welcomed back and I am focused on the present right now," he told broadcasters after the game.
90min understands Sancho is reluctant to return to United if Erik ten Hag remains in charge, having publicly come to blows with the Red Devils boss early in this season.
Should United decide to part ways with Sancho, they are expected to favour an immediate sale and will also prioritise cash-only offers with a view to balancing the books.
