Bruno Fernandes has backed Sporting CP manager Ruben Amorim to succeed in England following links to both Manchester City and Manchester United.

The two Manchester giants could soon be on the hunt for new managers for entirely different reasons. Pep Guardiola's contract with City is winding down, while on the red side of Manchester, Erik ten Hag remains under immense pressure.

Sporting CP boss Amorim, who has previously been linked with Chelsea and Liverpool, has now been touted as a possible target for both City and United. Fernandes, whose glory days with Sporting CP came months before Amorim's arrival, believes the 39-year-old could succeed in England.

"Since Amorim arrived at Sporting, they have been one of the teams to play the best football," Fernandes said. "They have been consistent, the signings have been right and they are in a very good moment. It's a very well prepared team.

"In relation to Amorim, he shows that he is prepared at this moment. Coaching Sporting and winning championships is not easy, Sporting went 20 years without winning championships and Amorim arrived and has already won two, this shows that the work has been done well.

"If he could manage to do the same in England, Spain or anywhere else, you will never know until you get there, but I'm sure his qualities are there for everyone to see."

Another Portugal international, Liverpool forward Diogo Jota, also offered a positive endorsement of Amorim.

"I can't judge coaches," he began. "I really like Ruben, he's Portuguese, I would always say yes, he has that ability [to succeed in England]. I wish him the best of luck for the future if he leaves Sporting."
