Carlo Ancelotti has hinted that France's decision not to call up Kylian Mbappe for October international due was influenced by Real Madrid's medical staff.

The French superstar suffered a hamstring injury in the dying embers of a win over Alaves on September 24, and had been widely expected to miss at least three weeks of action. However, Mbappe ended up missing just one week of football instead, recovering in time to play just over 30 minutes of Real Madrid's shock 1-0 defeat at the hands of LOSC Lille in the Champions League.

Despite Mbappe's quick return from injury, France national team manager Didier Dechamps elected not to call the striker up for international duty this October for UEFA Nations League games against Israel and Belgium. Speaking to the press regarding the decision, Deschamps cited injury as the reason for the omission:

"I had an exchange with Kylian. He has a problem but it is not serious. I am not going to take risks, which is why he is not in the squad."

Mbappe's availability for Madrid and not France has left many French fans rather baffled heading into the international break, as the striker is deemed fit enough to play for his club at the moment.

Addressing the decision made by Deschamps, Madrid manager Ancelotti has hinted that the club's medical staff recommended that he rests during the international break, despite passing him fit to feature this week in La Liga.

"Deschamps has decided not to call him up," said Ancelotti.

"Mbappe spoke with his selector, and I know know the club's medical staff spoke with the medical staff for France. So they spoke and decided to make this decision."

The striker has been named in the Madrid squad to face off against Villarreal on Saturday evening, and is widely expected to start the game.
