Chelsea's best and worst players from dramatic Aston Villa draw
- Chelsea fought back from 2-0 down to secure a draw with Aston Villa
- Goals from Noni Madueke and Conor Gallagher helped the Blues take a point from Villa Park
- Axel Disasi was denied a last-minute winner on Saturday night
Chelsea fought back after trailing by two goals to secure a draw at Aston Villa but were left frustrated as Axel Disasi was denied a dramatic winner on Saturday night.
It took a goal from Noni Madueke and Conor Gallagher's equaliser to get the Blues back on level terms, damaging Villa's hopes of qualifying for the Champions League in the process.
A third almost came their way when as a corner fell to Disasi, who tapped it into the back of the net. However, a VAR check ruled out the goal as teammate Benoit Badiashile was punished for a shove on Diego Carlos, even though the Brazilian never appealed for the foul.
These are Chelsea's best and worst players according to 90min's player ratings.
Chelsea's best player vs Aston Villa
Conor Gallagher - 8/10
Chelsea captain Gallagher is often ready to step up when the Blues need him, but against Villa he did so with confidence and a desire to succeed.
Madueke can thank the midfielder for stealing the ball off Douglas Luiz, allowing him to set the equaliser in motion.
He also worked tirelessly in the first half and was unfortunate not to see a chance arise from his efforts. He looked decisive, resolute and skilful at Villa Park - everything a captain should be.
Honourable mention
Moises Caicedo - 7/10
Moises Caicedo worked to silence his critics as he put in one of his most authoritative and commendable performances in a Chelsea shirt.
Blues fans have been begging to see this version of their midfielder and he arrived in style on Saturday night. The 22-year-old looked like one of the most mature players on the pitch, dictating the pace in midfield while simultaneously picking out passes over the top of Villa's high line.
He worked hard against the pairing of Luiz and John McGinn, proving crucial in Chelsea's comeback.
Chelsea's worst player vs Aston Villa
Mykhailo Mudryk - 4/10
Mykhailo Mudryk had a pretty shocking game on Saturday, failing to complete simple passes and seemingly struggling to control the ball.
The Blues realised quickly that going down the left side to set up Mudryk in front of the net was a poor idea and opted against offering the Ukrainian more chances.
The winger looked nervous and lacking of confidence, leading to silly mistakes and wasted chances. He skied two shots and made just 38 touches during the game - the fewest of any starting player.
He lost possession 12 times against his opponents, proving wasteful for Mauricio Pochettino's side. The boss will have been hoping for an improvement on his performance against Arsenal, but will be forced to continue waiting for a glimmer of hope.
Dishonourable mention
Marc Cucurella - 4/10
Marc Cucurella had a poor time at both ends of the pitch, though the Spaniard wasn't aided by other players in the squad making mistakes.
He was unlucky to concede an own goal early on during Villa's dominant first half and struggled against Leon Bailey when he charged forward.
However, Cucurella was moved into a more central role for the tail-end of the game, joining Gallagher and Caicedo in an attacking wall. This allowed him to look more energetic and, although not brilliant, better than his previous play.
He still needs to brush up on basic skills if he is to become a solid option for Chelsea, while also utilising the strong characteristics he does own.
