Chelsea have confirmed the signing of 19-year-old left-back Caleb Wiley from Atlanta United.

Interest in the United States international emerged earlier this summer and Chelsea moved quickly to secure what is believed to be an £8.5m deal to bring Wiley over to Europe.

Wiley had initially been expected to be signed by Chelsea's sister side, French outfit Strasbourg, but has officially been registered as a player at Stamford Bridge instead.

However, a loan to Strasbourg is expected to be on the cards for Wiley, who is part of the United States team taking part at this summer's Olympic Games in Paris.

Strasbourg are also set to secure the temporary signature of another Blues star, with midfielder Andrey Santos heading back to the French side. According to Fabrizio Romano, Santos will spend pre-season with Chelsea before re-joining Strasbourg, with whom he spent the second half of last season.

There has been major upheaval at Strasbourg this summer following the removal of Patrick Vieira as manager following a 4-0 friendly defeat to Jose Mourinho's Fenerbahce.

Reports suggest former Hull City boss Liam Rosenior is set to take Vieira's place in the dugout next season.

Rosenior is said to have already spoken with Santos to help convince the Brazilian midfielder to return to Strasbourg. There had been a number of clubs keen on sealing his signature on loan, including Borussia Dortmund, but Santos will join up with Rosenior at Strasbourg next season.
