Chelsea have reached an agreement with Villarreal to sign goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen, according to a report.

The Blues have been on the hunt for a new shot-stopper capable of playing from the back, with head coach Enzo Maresca keen to implement a style based on building up right from the goalkeeper.

Chelsea had been tentatively linked with Mads Hermansen, who signed for Leicester City under Maresca's management last summer, but they are instead pushing ahead with a move for fellow Dane Jorgensen instead.

Fabrizio Romano reports that Chelsea have now closed a deal to sign Jorgensen for £20.7m and he will soon be unveiled as their newest player.

Jorgensen will be the fourth new senior goalkeeper signed in BlueCo's two-year stint in control of Chelsea, following on from the additions of Gabriel Slonina, Robert Sanchez and Djordje Petrovic.

Slonina is still only 20 and mainly seen as a signing for the future, while Sanchez and Petrovic had issues in trying to play from the back last season under Maresca's predecessor, Mauricio Pochettino.

22-year-old Jorgensen was born in Sweden but has played in Spain since his teenage years and represents Denmark at junior international level. He made his breakthrough at Villarreal during the 2023/24 season, featuring 36 times in La Liga and recording the most saves in the division.

Jorgensen is in line to become Chelsea's seventh signing of a busy summer transfer window thus far, with Omari Kellyman, Tosin Adarabioyo, Marc Guiu, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Renato Veiga and Caleb Wiley all heading to Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea opened their pre-season campaign with a 2-2 draw against League One side Wrexham earlier this week, and they will take on Scottish champions Celtic on Saturday night.
