Chelsea's 2023/24 season was nothing short of chaos.

The Blues had a challenging campaign under Mauricio Pochettino, who departed Chelsea just 11 months into his reign following crucial disagreements over the way those in charge want to run the club.

Enzo Maresca has been handed the keys to the manager's office having performed well with Leicester City last season, an appointment that hasn't been universally appreciated by the club's supporters.

However, with another significant recruitment drive this summer and a full pre-season under the Italian, Chelsea fans will hope for the best heading into the new Premier League campaign.

Here is how Chelsea are getting on in pre-season.

Where did Chelsea go for 2024/25 pre-season?

Chelsea travelled to the United States once again for their 2024/25 pre-season tour, having visited North America for a number of friendlies over the past two years. The Blues played five games in total, including some against unusual opponents.

The first game of their pre-season took place on 25 July and their final American encounter came against Real Madrid on 7 August. They still have one home friendly organised at Stamford Bridge to come.

The unofficial start of the Maresca era hasn't exactly gone to plan, but growing pains are to be expected at the start of the new manager's reign. Chelsea, who thumped the same opposition 5-0 last summer, could only draw 2-2 with Wrexham to kick-off their US tour this time around.

That unconvincing display was followed up by a nightmare performance against Celtic, who were far deeper into their pre-season preparations at the time. Brendan Rodgers' side put the Blues to the sword in a 4-1 win.

Chelsea did secure a comfortable victory at the third time of asking and put three unanswered goals past Mexican side Club America. Christopher Nkunku, Marc Guiu and Noni Madueke all got on the scoresheet in a commanding win.

There were more issues against familiar foes Manchester City as the Premier League champions raced into a 4-0 lead thanks to an Erling Haaland hat-trick. Chelsea did offer late resistance, but they were beaten 4-2 in Ohio. The Blues followed that up with a 2-1 defeat, this time coming at the hands of Real Madrid.

Maresca's first home match will take place on Sunday 11 August where Serie A champions Inter will be Chelsea's opponents in west London.
