Chelsea predicted lineup vs Aston Villa today - Premier League
- Chelsea visit Aston Villa in the Premier League on Saturday evening
- The Blues must bounce back from a woeful 5-0 defeat to Arsenal last Tuesday
- Mauricio Pochettino's side can still finish in the European spots this season
Chelsea are aiming to bounce back from a humiliating 5-0 defeat to rivals Arsenal on Tuesday when they travel to the impressive Aston Villa this weekend.
Fans may be desperate for a miserable season to come to an end but they still have six games to play, starting with a trip to Villa Park. The Blues are 19 points off Saturday's opponents but could finish the weekend eighth in the table if they can find a victory here and West Ham don't beat Liverpool.
The only crumb of comfort for Chelsea is that they have already won at Villa Park this season, beating the Europa Conference League side 3-1 in the FA Cup fourth round earlier this term. But after their embarrassing defeat to the Gunners midweek, confidence won't be high.
Injuries continue to plague Mauricio Pochettino ahead of the run-in, but here is how he could line Chelsea up this weekend.
Chelsea predicted lineup vs Aston Villa (4-2-3-1)
GK: Djordje Petrovic - The goalkeeper has been one of Chelsea's few standout players this season and has comfortably made the number one spot his own. He's likely to be busy again on Saturday.
RB: Axel Disasi - After a pretty disastrous showing midweek, Disasi may return to right-back with Malo Gusto likely out at the weekend. He should step in for young Alfie Gilchrist, who endured a difficult evening at the Emirates.
CB: Trevoh Chalobah - He certainly can't make Chelsea's defence any worse than it was in north London, and he has been part of some of the Blues' more impressive recent displays.
CB: Thiago Silva - Time is running out during his final season at Stamford Bridge, with the veteran potentially replacing Benoit Badiashile this weekend after his dire display against Arsenal.
LB: Marc Cucurella - With Ben Chilwell out with a knee injury, the Spaniard should earn another start at Villa. He was one of Chelsea's better performers at Arsenal, although that wasn't difficult.
CM: Moises Caicedo - The £115m man has had a torrid first season at Stamford Bridge and could probably do with some time out of the team. However, Chelsea's injuries mean he must start again.
CM: Conor Gallagher - With Enzo Fernandez now out for the remainder of the campaign, Gallagher may drop into a deeper role against Villa. His energy in the defensive third could be beneficial.
RM: Noni Madueke - The winger hasn't had much luck during his string of recent starts, but he at least injects some positivity and energy into Chelsea's approach play.
AM: Cole Palmer - The man that has saved Chelsea's season, Palmer should return from illness at the weekend. They desperately need his attacking influence as he chases a Premier League Golden Boot.
LM: Mykhailo Mudryk - Mudryk produced an anonymous display in midweek and might have been replaced by Raheem Sterling, but the English winger has been struck down by injury.
ST: Nicolas Jackson - Missed a hatful of chances in the FA Cup semi-final and could have been sent off against Arsenal. He's in poor form but Chelsea have no other options, and he could at least hurt Villa's high line with his pace.
