Defending Women's Super League champions Chelsea have entered a new era under head coach Sonia Bompastor as they get ready to take on a new campaign without Emma Hayes for the first time in 12 years.

The club has had a busy summer transfer window so far, targeting new and young talent such as Sandy Baltimore and Julia Bartel to strengthen their squad, as well as bringing in experienced players like Lucy Bronze.

It's clear Bompastor has a vision for the squad she wants to develop and, with star striker Sam Kerr back in action after recovering from an ACL injury, there's no doubt Chelsea will be hungry for back-to-back title success.

There will be movement on the squad numbers front before 2024/25 submissions are made, but here's the current situation.

Can WSL players change squad numbers?

In the modern game and due to so many players being flexible in their positioning, squad numbers don't have as much meaning as they used to.

Players tend to have the option to choose any number they wish, but certain clubs may enforce specific numbering rules.
