Chelsea have agreed a lucrative new contract with star midfielder Cole Palmer, reports have revealed.

Palmer was on a comparatively low salary following his £40m move from Manchester City last summer but, after 25 goals and 15 assists in his debut season, was quickly earmarked for improved terms.

It was revealed earlier this summer that Chelsea were planning to increase Palmer's salary as part of a vision that would see the 22-year-old remain a key part of the furniture at Stamford Bridge for the next decade, and Palmer's contract extension has now been finalised.

Palmer has agreed to extend his initial contract by a further two years and is now committed to Chelsea until the summer of 2033.

Perhaps most importantly, The Athletic note that the midfielder has seen his salary increased as a reward for his immediate emergence as a crucial player for the club.

Palmer's importance to Chelsea over the coming campaign has already been outlined by new manager Enzo Maresca, who confirmed during the summer that the England international will be the team's first-choice penalty taker after yet another squabble during a pre-season fixture.

"When he returns with us, for sure Cole is the taker," Maresca revealed after the 3-0 win over Club America.

Palmer scored nine time from the penalty spot last season and, having netted in a friendly for England during the summer, is yet to miss from 12 yards in his senior career. Only Blues legend Frank Lampard has ever scored more penalty goals in a single season, with the former midfielder and manager bagging ten during the 2009/10 campaign.
