Dani Carvajal has revealed he is trying to persuade Spain teammate Rodri to leave Manchester City and sign for Real Madrid, poking fun at the English city's infamously poor weather.

Rodri has emerged as arguably the best central midfielder in world football since signing for the Cityzens in 2019, winning four Premier League titles as well as the 2022/23 Champions League.

He has developed a knack for scoring crucial goals for Pep Guardiola's side and still has another three years left on his contract, but that hasn't stopped Los Blancos right-back Carvajal from attempting to talk his international colleague into swapping the Etihad Stadium for the Bernabeu.

Speaking to COPE ahead of Sunday's Euro 2024 final against England, Carvajal said: "I tell [Rodri] every day to come to Madrid.

"I tell him: 'Leave Manchester, there is no sun there, and come to Madrid, we need you. And what's more, you're from Madrid.'

"He says he has a contact, that there aren't release clauses [in England]...he gives me the runaround basically, but he would be the perfect signing, no doubt. He is Spanish, from Madrid. He would fit in perfectly."

Rodri previously played in Spain for Villarreal and Atletico Madrid before signing for City but, in a blow to Carvajal's not-so-covert courting, recently revealed he had no plans to leave his current side.

"I am at one of the best clubs in the world and I am really happy in England," he told Diario AS.

"I have three years left on my contract and, when the moment arrives, I will see. I don't like to think long-term, it doesn't make much sense."

Rodri has played five of Spain's six Euro 2024 games ahead of Sunday's final, impressing in an exciting team that have won all of their matches at the tournament so far. Carvajal was suspended for La Roja's semi-final victory over France and will come back into the side at the expense of veteran Jesus Navas.
