David de Gea has found himself a new club 12 months after his departure from Manchester United, inking a contract with Serie A side Fiorentina.
De Gea left United last summer following the expiration of his contract and spent last season without a club, rejecting interest from the Middle East while he worked on his fitness behind the scenes.
A handful of Serie A clubs have been linked with De Gea this summer but it is Fiorentina who have now confirmed his arrival.
He joins a Fiorentina side who have been looking to upgrade in goal this summer and had previously looked at Chelsea's Djordje Petrovic, whose future at Stamford Bridge is uncertain following the arrival of Filip Jorgensen from Villarreal.
De Gea will be formally presented to the media on Monday.
At Fiorentina, De Gea could link up with former United midfielder Sofyan Amrabat, who is back in Florence after the Red Devils declined to trigger the purchase clause in his loan last season.
United paid £8.5m to sign Amrabat on loan last season and had the option to make the move permanent for £21.4m, but rejected the chance to do so after the 27-year-old made just ten Premier League starts.
Erik ten Hag is, however, believed to be open to bringing Amrabat back on a more favourable deal, but there has not yet been any progress on that front.
Fiorentina finished eighth in Serie A last season and now welcome De Gea into their ranks as they prepare for a campaign in the UEFA Conference League.
