David Raya gives update on permanent Arsenal move
- Raya joined Arsenal on loan from Brentford last summer
- The 28-year-old recently won the Premier League's Golden Glove award
- Mikel Arteta has a decision to make on Raya and Aaron Ramsdale
David Raya has admitted it would be "a dream come true" if Arsenal were to secure his services on a permanent basis this summer as his loan from Brentford nears its end.
Having kept 16 clean sheets, a feat worthy of obtaining the Golden Glove award, Raya has been instrumental in the Gunners' charge for the Premier League title, and with the season now over, a decision on his future must be made.
Raya's loan from Brentford does include a purchase clause which he confessed he hopes to see triggered as soon as possible.
In an interview with the Daily Mail, the Spaniard admitted: "Of course, I would love to be here next season. It would be amazing, a dream come true to sign for this club.
"It’s not up to me, the contract. It’s up to the club and to Mikel. If my performances have been good enough then hopefully they will offer me a long-term contract."
Arsenal are expected to trigger their purchase clause for Raya - a move which will likely bring an end to Aaron Ramsdale's time at the club.
Ramsdale lost his place towards the start of the season and ends the campaign with just 11 appearances in all competitions.
With another season on the sidelines looming, Ramsdale is expected to consider his options this year and has attracted interest from Newcastle United, although the goalkeeper took to social media to insist reports of an agreement were premature.
