Tottenham Hotspur's acquisition of Dominic Solanke is not only good news for Spurs fans but Fantasy Premier League enthusiasts as well.

The former Bournemouth forward has made the £55m move to north London after an extremely fruitful season on the south coast and a campaign that endeared him to FPL fans across the globe. Not many strikers were able to match his consistency and points tally for the 2023/24 campaign.

Now in a stronger side, logic would suggest Solanke can be an even more exceptional option now he's donning a white jersey. With a fairly reasonable price tag, he's likely to be a popular option up top.

But will Solanke be ready to make his Spurs debut in Gameweek 1 after an injury scare?

Having now been unveiled as a Tottenham player, Ange Postecoglou will be eager to get Solanke fit and firing in time for Spurs' Premier League opener away at Leicester City on Monday 19 August.

However, the Australian coach has confirmed the 26-year-old has joined the Lilywhites with a minor foot injury suffered in a pre-season friendly with Bournemouth.

Cherries boss Andoni Iraola confirmed Solanke missed the 1-0 win over Rayo Vallecano on 5 August after someone stamped on his foot.

What has Ange Postecoglou said about Dominic Solanke's injury?

Speaking to the media about his new signing, Postecoglou suggested Solanke should be fit for Gameweek 1 despite his foot issue.

"Yeah, I don't see any reason why he shouldn't be [fit for GW1]," said Postecoglou. "He's played most of the pre-season. Slight knock in the last game Bournemouth played, but, of course, we'll have a look at him during the week.

"But I think that considering he's done most of pre-season, I see no reason why he wouldn't be available."

The Spurs boss added: "We identified him because he has the attributes we are looking for in terms of that position. He gives us some things we probably have been missing in the last 12 months, particularly when Richy [Richarlison] was out last year.

"When Richy played he was very effective for us but it was quite evident when he was out we didn't really have a player who can make the impact that I know Dom can in the final third and just with his general play. So I think he will be a good fit for us."

Dominic Solanke alternatives in FPL Gameweek 1

Given Postecoglou's reassuring comments on Solanke's injury, FPL managers should have little hesitation drafting the £7.5m striker into their teams for GW1. However, if you're still a little unsure on him, there are plenty of alternatives.

Alexander Isak (£8.5m) and Ollie Watkins (£9m) are the obvious choices if you can afford them, with the former starting with a home fixture against newly-promoted Southampton. Captaining the Newcastle United striker might prove a wise decision given his impressive pre-season form.

Given Igor Thiago's injury, Ivan Toney (£7.5m) could be a smart pick at the same price. Brentford face Crystal Palace and Southampton on home soil in two of their opening three matches. Similarly, Arsenal's Gabriel Jesus (£7m) and West Ham United's Niclas Fullkrug (£7m) could be good replacements.

If you want to save some funds then there are two standout options at a lower price bracket. Despite starting away at Manchester United, Fulham have a fairly favourable early run of fixtures, making Rodrigo Muniz (£6m) a strong candidate. Given Evan Ferguson's injury, Brighton striker Joao Pedro (£5.5m) is a sensible option, too.
