Donny van de Beek's Manchester United nightmare appears close to its end, with Girona reportedly on the cusp of a cut-price deal to sign the Dutch midfielder.

A £40m signing from Ajax in 2020, Van de Beek started just four Premier League games in his maiden season at Old Trafford and soon found himself completely out of the pecking order, even following the arrival of his former Ajax boss Erik ten Hag.

With 62 appearances and just 2,157 minutes of action over the last four years, Van de Beek finally seems set for the career restart he craves, with Relevo the first to reveal that a deal had been struck to sell the midfielder to Girona.

The report claims the agreement between United and Girona revolves around a fee of just €500,000 (£420,000) - just 1% of the original £40m fee.

However, Fabrizio Romano adds that United stand to recover more of that fee based on a number of add-ons included in the deal.

A clause concerning appearances this season could take the fee closer to €5m (£4.2m), with even more money potentially due to United through performance-related add-ons.

Importantly, personal terms are yet to be agreed between Van de Beek and Girona, who will meet with the 27-year-old in the coming days to thrash out a deal.

A move to Girona would give Van de Beek the chance to reunite with former Ajax teammate Daley Blind, who recently signed a new contract after his crucial role in leading Girona to a shock spot in next season's Champions League.
