Erik ten Hag could be sacked by Manchester United if his game model does not start to impress the club's football department, a report has claimed.

The Dutchman was expected to lose his role at Old Trafford at the end of last season, but crawled back an FA Cup victory over Manchester City to reinstate confidence in his position. Following an end-of-season review, the club decided to keep him on, confident that strong summer signings would enable him to take the club forward.

However, just three games into the new season, it seems Ten Hag's position is once again in jeopardy, with United recording just one win over Fulham before loses to Brighton & Hove Albion and Liverpool.

As per reports from The Guardian, Ten Hag risks losing his job unless he can impress the club's decision-makers - overseen by Sir Jim Ratcliffe and led by Dan Ashworth and Jason Wilcox.

So far, the club have been left "underwhelmed" by Ten Hag's approach to the season and there is "major concern" around how he sets up his team, although there is recognition that injuries have not helped his case once again.

United CEO Omar Berrada, along with Ashworth, have publicly backed Ten Hag, claiming that the Dutchman is still the right fit for the club.

The Red Devils recorded their lowest-ever Premier League finish last season, dropping to eighth. A disappointing loss to Manchester City in the Community Shield awaited them on return to domestic football, while they currently sit on just three points after three games in the league.

United are set to travel to St Mary's after the international break to face Southampton, where they will hope to pick up their first away win of the season.

The club brought in five new players this summer, welcoming Leny Yoro, Manuel Ugarte, Matthijs de Ligt, Joshua Zirkzee and Noussair Mazraoui to Old Trafford. Zirkzee has already managed to find the back of the net for United, while Yoro is injured and Ugarte only arrived late in the transfer window.
