Erik ten Hag has revealed that Manchester United 'want to keep' Bruno Fernandes, amid rumours of the captain with leaving Old Trafford this summer.

The Red Devils capped off their final home game of the season with a 3-2 victory over Newcastle United on Wednesday night, keeping their dreams of achieving European football via their Premier League finish alive.

Goals from the young trio of Kobbie Mainoo, Amad Diallo and Rasmus Hojlund were enough to offer a glimmer of hope towards the end of United's poor season and they could still avoid recording their worst-ever Premier League finish of eighth place.

More positive news may be on the way to Old Trafford, as boss Ten Hag revealed the club's stance on captain Fernandes.

The midfielder has been heavily linked with an exit of late, with Bayern Munich, Inter and the Saudi Pro League tipped as potential destinations. However, it looks as if his Premier League career is not yet over.

Addressing reports that the Portugal international may be on his way out of United, Ten Hag said: "The club wants to keep Bruno. There is no question. He loves Manchester United, he loves the fans from Manchester United, and he loves to play for Manchester United.

"You see he gives always his best. And he's an example, even with injuries, he's playing. He loves football. He wants to win, and I think that's how I describe his character."

Fernandes himself also commented on his future, stating he will remain at United for as long as the club wish to keep him.

The 29-year-old made the move to United in 2020 after departing Sporting CP. His current contract runs until the summer of 2026, with an option for a further year in his deal.

He has been a vital part of Ten Hag's squad this season, making 46 appearances across all competitions and registering 27 goal involvements - 15 goals and 12 assists - in that time.
