- Several international players remain on holiday after tournaments
Manchester United will take a 29-player squad on their pre-season tour of the United States, with several first-teamers boosting numbers after missing the club's first two summer friendlies.
It was a predominantly young side for Erik ten Hag as United lost narrowly to Rosenborg in Norway and then beat Rangers in Scotland earlier this month.
The boss has retained plenty of the academy graduates who featured in that pair of friendlies including striker Ethan Wheatley, goalkeeper Radek Vitek, left-backs Harry Amass and Sam Murray and midfielders Toby Collyer and Jack Fletcher, the latter of whom is the teenage son of coach Darren.
But Ten Hag can also now call upon Rasmus Hojlund, the club's new number 9, Christian Eriksen, Scott McTominay and Tom Heaton after the quartet reported for duty after Euro 2024 involvement. Harry Maguire is part of the squad too after overcoming the injury that ruled him out of the tournament.
Casemiro has been captaining United during pre-season so far, which is likely to continue with usual skipper Bruno Fernandes still on holiday. The same is true of Diogo Dalot, Kobbie Mainoo, Luke Shaw, Altay Bayindir and new signing Joshua Zirkzee. Alejandro Garnacho, Lisandro Martinez and Facundo Pellistri are also on delayed leave due to their participation in the latter stages of the Copa America.
United will face Premier League rivals Arsenal at SoFi Stadium on Los Angeles on 27 July before games against Real Betis and Liverpool in San Diego and South Carolina respectively in the days that follow up to 3 August. A week later, the Red Devils face Manchester City in the Community Shield, which is the reason for not hosting a typical curtain-raising friendly at Old Trafford this summer.
