European giants could offer Anthony Martial surprise escape route out of Man Utd
- Anthony Martial has been linked with a move to Inter
- The 28-year-old is set to become a free agent when the season ends
- Striker has missed most of Man Utd's season due to injury
Serie A leaders Inter could make an offer to Anthony Martial ahead of the expiry of his Manchester United contract, according to a report.
It's not the first time that Martial has been linked with a move to the Italian side, but now reports state that Inter are ready to consider a fresh move for the French striker.
Gazzetta dello Sport write that the signing of Martial is being discussed by Inter chiefs, but they share concern over his poor form and injury record.
Martial is not seen as their sole priority in attack, though - Inter's top target is Genoa's Albert Gudmundsson, who is contracted with his club until 2027 and has been linked with Tottenham in recent months.
A move for Gudmundsson would require a significant fee, and so if Inter are unable to bring in the Iceland international, their attention will then move to Martial.
An advantage to moving for Martial over Gudmundsson is Inter would not have to pay a transfer fee to United, while his status as a free agent this summer means they can speak directly to the player's camp immediately.
A move to Serie A could be suit Martial, who will be on the lookout for a fresh start to re-establish himself following several poor campaigns in the Premier League.
The 28-year-old has played 19 times across all competitions this season, scoring just twice in these appearances. By contrast, Gudmundsson has found the net 12 times in 29 Serie A matches.
Martial has scored 90 times in 317 appearances for United since joining in 2015 from Monaco. But since his prolific 2019/20 campaign in which he grabbed 23 goals in 48 games, he has scored only 19 times, while he also spent the second half of the 2021/22 season on an unsuccessful loan at Sevilla.
