Everton predictions 2024/25: Premier League finish, top goalscorer and season preview
- Everton finished adrift of relegation zone last season despite eight-point deduction
- Amadou Onana has departed for Aston Villa
- Can Sean Dyche lead Toffees to mid-table security?
Everton are readying themselves for an emotional 2024/25 campaign in which they will bid farewell to Goodison Park, their home of 132 years.
Having scraped by in back-to-back seasons, financial turmoil and the point deductions that followed threatened to compromise Everton's 2023/24 campaign, but Sean Dyche was able to guide the Toffees to safety at a canter. They would have finished 12th if they hadn't lost eight points to the abyss.
Dyche's Everton are built around defensive resolve and their ability without the ball, recording the fourth-best defensive record in the division last term. For the Toffees to reach mid-table security and push for a top-half finish, there must be some evolution in the final third and a general decrease in the reliance on injury-prone Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
Here's 90min's preview to Everton's 2024/25 campaign.
Everton's performance in the last five seasons
The Carlo Ancelotti era promised so much but culminated in very little and Everton struggled mightily in the immediate aftermath. The Toffees recorded 16th and 17th-place finishes in 2021/22 and 2022/23 respectively before coming 15th last season, comfortably adrift of the drop zone.
Everton's performance amid all the off-field turbulence was very impressive, with Dyche deserving a tremendous amount of credit for his work during his first full season on Merseyside.
The Toffees have also teased a couple of 80s-esque cup runs as of late, reaching the quarter-finals of both the FA Cup and EFL Cup on multiple occasions. A semi-final berth has eluded them for a while, though.

Everton predicted top goalscorer
Only Sheffield United (39) scored fewer Premier League goals than Everton (40) last season, so it's no surprise their leading scorer in all competitions was Dominic Calvert-Lewin with a mere eight.
While the Toffees were goal-shy, they certainly had no issues creating chances. The underlying numbers suggest Dyche's side were one of the biggest under-performers in front of goal and they should continue to impress from a playmaking perspective given the arrivals of Ndiaye and Lindstrom.
The goalscoring burden will once again rest with Calvert-Lewin off the back of a profligate campaign, but the forward can definitely top Everton's scoring charts if he stays fit. The striker will almost certainly hit double-digits if he avoids prolonged absences, but that's far from a guarantee.
In truth, there aren't many other reliable sources of goals in this Everton squad. Ndiaye is coming off a poor season with Marseille, Lindstrom is a pocket player who will create more than he scores, Dwight McNeil is a crosser who will contribute now and then, while James Garner could be forced into a deeper midfield role.
Dyche will hope Beto enjoys an improved second season at the club, but the towering forward is unlikely to earn many starts should Calvert-Lewin remain healthy.
Everton predicted Premier League finish
Off-field uncertainty continues to plague Everton and undermine Dyche's astute efforts. The Toffees could earn more point deductions in 2024/25 due to their financial misgivings.
Further deductions would thrust Everton into the dogfight when fans were hoping to enjoy a serene campaign during what's bound to be an incredibly emotional one for long-time supporters. Many will hope Goodison Park gets the send-off it deserves.
Everton are too stern defensively to succumb, but their predictability and lack of variation in attack does put a ceiling on their 2024/25 campaign. The Toffees have bought talent in Ndiaye and Lindstrom, but question marks surround their suitability. Goals could be an issue once again.
Still, fans should be content with a 15th-place finish bereft of a flirt with the drop zone.
