Everton have renegotiated the terms of their agreement with Tottenham Hotspur as they consider the future of midfielder Dele, a report has revealed.

Dele swapped Tottenham for Everton in January 2022 in a complex free transfer which featured a number of performance-related bonuses for Spurs, but the 28-year-old managed just 13 appearances for the Toffees before seeing his contract expire this summer.

However, having seen his comeback derailed by injury, Dele continues to train with Everton and could yet earn himself a new contract if he can prove his fitness.

As noted by the Daily Mail, Spurs would have been due a "significant fee" if Dele signed a new Everton contract, but the two clubs have now thrashed out a new agreement which leaves the Merseyside outfit free to offer Dele a new deal without needing to pay anything to Spurs.

Dele has not played competitive football since February 2023 during a loan with Besiktas, which was derailed by a hip injury, before a groin issue saw the midfielder sidelined for the entirety of last season.

Everton continue to treat Dele's groin injury despite allowing his contract to expire earlier this summer, and he has also taken part in light training sessions with Sean Dyche's side.

Should Dele successfully prove his fitness and worth to the team this summer, he could be offered fresh terms by Everton.

Last summer, Dele opened up on the mental health issues he has battled throughout his life and spoke glowingly of the support offered to him by Everton while he stepped away from football in search of professional help.

He is now back and fighting to reignite his career in the hope of earning a new contract with Everton.
