Fabrice Abriel: Who is Paris Saint-Germain's new head coach?

Fabrice Abriel has been appointed head coach of Paris-Saint Germain, signing a deal through to June 2026. 

The French international is a former player who came through the PSG youth academy, making his senior debut with the club and winning the Intertoto Cup in the Rouge-et-Bleu shirt in 2001. 

After his professional career, Abriel turned to coaching, starting with FC Gobelins, and gaining experience with the French military team and at the Amiens SC youth academy. In 2020, he became assistant coach at FC Fleury 91 before becoming head coach at the end of the season.

Under his leadership, the club finished fourth in D1 Arkema in 2022 and 2023, and fifth last season. He qualified the club systematically for the Women's Coupe de France semi-finals, but fell to PSG in the final last May. 

Speaking about his hiring, Abriel explained: "It's a real honour to have been chosen to start this new chapter for the PSG women's team. I would like to thank the club for their faith in me. I was fortunate enough to be at the youth academy and to have made my professional debut here. 

"Today, I'm proud to return and delighted to have the chance to give back to PSG what it gave me. I'm looking forward to starting work with this squad of extremely talented players, who should be ambitious for the seasons to come."

All eyes will be on Abriel next season as the club prepares to battle it out with Lyon to top the table, after placing second last year, nineteen points from the top spot. PSG are certainly pulling out all the stops to make that happen, after making several top signings already. 

After much speculation, it was announced last week that England goalkeeper Mary Earps would be moving to Paris until June 2026, following her exit from Manchester United in the Barclays Women’s Super League. 

They've also welcomed defenders Griedge Mbock and Tara Elimbi Gilbert, while confirming the exit of forward Sandy Baltimore to Chelsea and striker Amalie Vansgaard to Juventus.
