- The PFA Young Player of the Year nominees have been revealed
- Cole Palmer and Bukayo Saka have earned plcaes on the shortlist
- The award will be handed out on 20 August
While we're all getting ready for the 2024/25 Premier League season, the PFA are gearing up to hand out their awards for the 2023/24 campaign. Bit late, eh?
Ahead of the award ceremony in Manchester on 20 August, the PFA has released the list of nominees for their coveted Young Player of the Year award.
And, of course, we at 90min have decided to rank them.
6. Joao Pedro
To be perfectly honest, we were a bit surprised Joao Pedro received a nomination for this award.
While his nine league goals was hardly a terrible return in the Premier League, it wasn't exactly an eye-catching haul, either.
The Brazilian was much more impressive in the Europa League, where he netted six goals in six appearances.
5. Michael Olise
Considering he earned himself a move to Bayern Munich following the 2023/24 season, it's fair to say Michael Olise impressed for Crystal Palace.
The France forward was superb when he played, bagging 16 goal contributions in the Premier League.
The problem? He only started 14 games, so we can't really rank him ahead of players who contributed more regularly throughout the 2023/24 season.
4. Kobbie Mainoo
In November 2023, very few football fans knew who Kobbie Mainoo was.
Fast forward to August 2024 and he's now a regular for England and a star for Manchester United.
That's all been thanks to the youngster putting in superb performance after superb performance during the season half of the 2023/24 campaign, becoming a certified club icon with the winner in the FA Cup final earlier this year.
Expect Mainoo to be a contender for this award this time next year, too.
3. Alejandro Garnacho
For his overhead kick against Everton alone, Alejandro Garnacho deserved a nomination for the PFA Young Player of the Year award.
And it wasn't the only spectacular contribution he made to Man Utd's season, either.
The Argentine was consistently fantastic under Erik ten Hag, providing some much-needed spark to the Red Devils attack.
2. Bukayo Saka
The reigning PFA Young Player of the Year was, expectedly, bloody brilliant during the 2023/24 season for Arsenal.
Bukayo Saka's 20 goal contributions were an improvement upon his 2022/23 numbers and helped the Gunners go toe-to-toe with Manchester City for the Premier League title.
1. Cole Palmer
If you thought Saka's numbers were impressive, wait until you see Cole Palmer's.
Games: 33
Goals: 22
Assists: 11
The Chelsea star was spellbindingly good in his first season at Stamford Bridge.
Having already won the Premier League Young Player of the Year award, we're fully expecting him to win the PFA prize, too.
