When Chelsea's new owners arrived, they hatched a four-window transfer plan which has now entered its final stretch.
The Blues' project hasn't exactly gone to plan thus far and focus has now turned to creating a squad fit for new manager Enzo Maresca, who rocked up to Stamford Bridge this summer with a tactical setup that may require some specific investment this summer.
With that in mind, here are three players Chelsea need to sign before the window closes.
Victor Osimhen
Victor Osimhen has been Chelsea's top striker target for years now. The 25-year-old is one of very few elite strikers who feel genuinely attainable and clearly would help the Blues address perhaps their biggest flaw over the past number of years - putting the ball in the back of the net.
Chelsea pivoted towards other targets amid concerns over Osimhen's high wages and release clause of over £100m, but Napoli's determination to replace the Nigerian with Romelu Lukaku surely has to work in Chelsea's favour.
This deal shouldn't be done at any cost, but Chelsea do have the finances to spend big if needed. A little more flexibility from everyone involved should hand the Blues a massive upgrade in attack.
Mathys Tel
The presence of Harry Kane at Bayern Munich saw Mathys Tel turned from a striker into a winger last season, but the 19-year-old Frenchman did not disappoint. Despite only starting six Bundesliga games, Tel ended up with seven goals and five assists to his name.
Tel may have more value to Chelsea as a winger than a striker. The Blues want further reinforcements out wide amid concerns over the goal volume of the players in their current squad, and they could do a lot worse than land one of the best young forwards on the planet.
The issue here is that Tel is under contract until 2029. He may need to put some pressure on his current employers, perhaps referencing his lack of minutes, to get this one done.
Gabriel Mec
Chelsea's determination to hoover up the game's best young players has almost a joke, but the interest in 16-year-old Gremio midfielder Gabriel Mec should be taken incredibly seriously.
Already compared to fellow Gremio product Ronaldinho, Mec is widely seen as one of the top players of his age group in world football and scouting reports on the teenager all agree that seeing him develop into anything other than a superstar would be an enormous suprise.
Mec can't even move to Europe until the summer of 2026, so this is clearly not a move with the present in mind, but his is a talent which should not be ignored by clubs who have the finances to get a deal over the line.
