5 players who need to leave Liverpool this summer

Liverpool are entering a new era, with Arne Slot now the head coach of the men's first team.

Jurgen Klopp's era is a thing of the past and change is afoot at Anfield, though not every player will get a chance to help write this new chapter.

The Reds' squad planning means they actually only have a handful of sellable assets remaining in their squad, and most of those in need of shifting should probably leave for their own good anyways.

Here are five players who Liverpool should sell during the summer transfer window.

Caoimhin Kelleher

Come on, Caoimhin. You can't be Liverpool's backup goalkeeper your whole life.

Remarkably, Kelleher has managed to make 47 senior appearances for the Reds during his time as Allison's understudy. But he is also now 25 years of age and should probably look for consistent minutes elsewhere.

New Republic of Ireland manager Heimir Hallgrimsson has already warned Kelleher his national team spot may be at risk if he does not leave Anfield.

Fabio Carvalho

For whatever reason, Fabio Carvalho just wasn't Klopp's cup of tea.

There's every chance that Slot might take more of a liking to the 21-year-old, but the odds are a little against him at this point.

Liverpool have more promising players emerging in both midfield and attack. It might just be that Carvalho, no matter how good he is and can become, just won't see the game-time needed to develop fully at Anfield.

Nat Phillips

During Liverpool's injury-raved coronavirus-dampening 2020/21 season, Nat Phillips stepped forth as an unlikely cult hero.

A defender of no nonsense, but one who liked the occasional turn of flair. The young academy product, who was actually already well into his twenties. The solution to Liverpool's problems, but only half so because he was trying to fill Virgil van Dijk's boots.

To this point, the club have been unable to shift Phillips on a permanent basis. With one year left on his contract, it feels like now is their last chance to get a fee for him.

Rhys Williams

Phillips' co-star at the back during the 2020/21 campaign was Rhys Williams, who has been through a year from Hell.

At the start of the 2023/24 season, Williams joined Aberdeen on loan, but played only once and was recalled in January. Shortly after heading to Port Vale, he sustained an injury and was sent back to Liverpool.

The poor guy just can't catch a break, but here's hoping he can finally go somewhere and play regularly for years to come.

Sepp van den Berg

Once billed as the heir to Van Dijk, Liverpool are now at odds with 22-year-old Sepp van den Berg.

After a fine season on loan at Mainz, the Dutchman lashed out at Liverpool for setting too high a price tag on him in order to make that move permanent.

"You have not radiated confidence in me all this time, but you do want to hinder my future. I want to continue playing every week and further develop myself," he said earlier this June.
