Arsenal or Chelsea: Who should Benjamin Sesko sign for?
- RB Leipzig striker Bejamin Sesko is wanted by top Premier League sides
- He made 42 appearances for the German side during 2023/24 campaign
- Both Arsenal and Chelsea are in the market for a forward
Bejamin Sesko is a name that seems to crop up in every conversation recently, and if you look at some of the qualities this striker possesses, it's no surprise why.
The 21-year-old moved to Bundesliga side RB Leipzig in the summer of 2023, after previously impressing at sister club Red Bull Salzburg. He caught the attention of plenty around the world during the latest campaign, scoring beautiful strikes and dominating against huge teams.
Both Arsenal and Chelsea are in the market for a striker, and consider Sesko to be a serious target.
But the question remains, who will win the race for his signature, and who should Sesko choose?
Arsenal
Arsenal continued to bat away criticism over their lack of an out-and-out striker throughout the 2023/24 campaign, often using midfielders and wingers as goalscoring outlets.
However, they were still unable to steal the Premier League title from the hands of reigning champions Manchester City - so perhaps a proper striker would be a worthy investment.
Arsenal actually looks like a fantastic destination for Sesko, who wouldn't be under immediate pressure. The forward is still just 21 and would be considered a project signing for the club - so having the opportunity to rotate with a player like Kai Havertz would allow him to settle and develop.
Mikel Arteta's style of management would suit Sesko tenfold, allowing him to refine his craft among talented players. Potential link-up play with Martin Odegaard could create magical moments in front of goal, with Sesko's heading ability and geneal aerial threat highly valuable.
Arsenal's tactics may throw a slight spanner in the works however, as Sesko's previous teams have all played in a 4-2-2-2 formation, or similar, with two attackers up front. Arteta's system regularly uses just one up front, so the Slovenian international may feel isolated on the pitch.
Fit? 7/10
Chelsea
Chelsea have already been linked with so many forwards ahead of the new season, but Sesko remains a name that Blues fans are excited about.
Stamford Bridge has welcomed so many young players to the club in recent years, so a move for the 21-year-old Bundesliga talent doesn't seem out of the realm of possibility. Chelsea are preparing for a season under new boss Enzo Maresca - who the club liked because of his ability to develop players.
Chelsea, seemingly willing to trigger a £42m release clause, do lack a presence who can dominate in the box and win aerial duels, which are two qualities that Sesko certainly boasts.
However, if the Blues want to sign a striker who will be immediately effective and help them push on in the league, they may be forced to opt for a more mature option. They also already have the skills of Nicolas Jackson at their disposal - someone who is a regular starter as opposed to Sesko.
Chelsea's new striker will need to be a player who can arrive at the club and shake things up, whereas Sesko will need more time to settle. Time will soon reveal whether the two clubs will be forced into another Mykhailo Mudryk situation.
