Every Premier League player who could leave on free transfer in 2025
- A long list of Premier League players could leave become free agents
- Liverpool still have multiple contract situations to resolve
- Son Heung-min and Kevin De Bruyne also into final year of contract
2025 looks like it could be a big year for Jean-Marc Bosman. As we veer into the new year, a huge list of Premier League players appear destined to depart their respective clubs on the type of free transfers named for the long-retired Belgian.
With the January transfer window traditionally being a tough period to conduct business, many clubs may focus their attentions on retaining their own this winter.
The Premier League's aristocracy, in particular, have work to do. Liverpool have been the division's dominant force in 2024/25, but supporters have not been able to ignore the ambiguity which surrounds the futures of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk.
Prospective foreign buyers can, of course, begin to lay the groundwork from 1 January and discuss potential summer transfers with free agents, and Real Madrid are reported to have already made an approach for Alexander-Arnold, who seems the most likely out of the three behemoths to exit Anfield.
Manchester City's shock demise may convince them that a complete reshuffle is required, which could facilitate the departures of veteran pair Kevin De Bruyne and Ilkay Gundogan. Son Heung-min has long been adored at Tottenham, but the regression he's manifested this term means there's no guarantee Spurs will commit to their captain.
It's not just the big boys who have plenty to ponder. Clubs across the division risk losing core stars for nothing in 2025.
Christian Norgaard is yet to extend at Brentford, nor has Golden Boot contender Chris Wood at Nottingham Forest, Fabian Schar at Newcastle, Tyrick Mitchell at Crystal Palace, or Jamie Vardy at Leicester.
Manchester United will surely tie down Amad Diallo given the glimmers of hope he's offered since Erik ten Hag's departure, while Harry Maguire has also teased a resurgence under new coach Ruben Amorim. An ageing Christian Eriksen is more likely to walk.
On 1 January 2025, 82 Premier League players entered the final six months of their contracts.
