It's been a disappointing end to the season for Erik ten Hag's beleaguered Manchester United, but it's been a particularly difficult time for Casemiro.

Once lauded as the best defensive midfielder in the world - owing to repeated success in the Champions League with Real Madrid - the Brazilian has looked all at sea in his second season at United, with a recent emergency spell at centre-back proving to be an unmitigated disaster.

So is it all over for Casemiro at Old Trafford?

Will Casemiro leave Man Utd this summer?

Manchester United will actively look to move on from Casemiro this summer, providing they can find a buyer willing to subsidise his huge £350,000-per-week wages.

Luckily, there's concrete interest in Casemiro's services from the Saudi Pro League - who can absolutely afford to cover the cost of signing him - and it would appear inevitable that a bid will be made this summer.

United recognise they will take a substantial loss on Casemiro in terms of transfer fee, but the opportunity to begin a much-needed rebuild supersedes the negative optics that a departure will inevitably bring.

Speaking after United's humiliating defeat to Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park, pundit Jamie Carragher said of his situation: "Casemiro, deadly serious, should know tonight as an experienced player that he should only have another three games left at the top level, the next two league games and the cup final, and then he should be thinking, 'I need to go to the MLS or Saudi'.

"I'm deadly serious. His agent, the team of people around him, they need to tell him, 'this has to stop'.

"We are watching one of the greats of the modern times, playing in the best midfields we have seen who have dominated Europe - him holding, [Toni] Kroos and [Luka] Modric alongside him, could easily go up against that Barcelona midfield that we all loves of [Sergio] Busquets, [Andres] Iniesta and Xavi. He's been an absolute great.

"I am nowhere near on what that man has achieved, winning Champions Legaue, playing for Brazil and playing for Real Madrid. But I always remember something when I retired myself, there's a saying I always remember as a footballer, 'leave the football, before the football leaves you'. The football has left him at this top level. He has to call it a day at this level of football and move."
