Joshua Zirkzee potential shirt numbers at Man Utd

Joshua Zirkzee is closing in on a move to Manchester United, and if all goes to plan, he'll soon be holding a loft one of those famous red shirts.

But the next question will be: what number is on that shirt? What number can Zirkzee take?

Here are the options on offer to Zirkzee, his shirt history and more.

If Zirkzee tells you he has a favourite number to wear, it would be fair to cast some doubt at that given how often he has changed his own over the years.

When breaking through the upper echelons of the Feyenoord youth team, he adorned 17 and 18 at separate points. That's fair enough.

But when he moved to the Bayern Munich youth and reserve setups, that's when things started to get out of hand. Here's all the numbers he wore before he reached the senior team: 9, 11, 15, 19, 24, 25, 32 and 41. You got enough numbers, lad?

After making his breakthrough at the Allianz Arena, Zirkzee took on the number 35 and later switched to 14. For a brief spell back at Bayern after returning from a loan, he went back to 32.

While on loans at Parma and Anderlecht, Zirkzee went for 17 and 23 respectively. A third loan spell away from Bayern at Bologna eventually became permanent - he took 11 initially, and then 9 after signing with them for good.

With Netherlands' youth and senior teams, Zirkzee has been handed out 9, 10, 11 18, 19, 20 and 21.

Man Utd available shirt numbers

There aren't too many numbers that Zirkzee could have to choose from if he does sign for United, but there would be one standout candidate.

The number 9, last worn by Anthony Martial, is available for the first time in nine years, fittingly. It's likely Zirkzee would plump for this, so long as it hasn't been promised for Rasmus Hojlund, who currently wears 11.

United's other free shirts are 3, 4, 13, 15, 19, 26, 27, 30, 31, 33, 34, 38, 41 and 42.
