The 2023/24 season will not be remembered fondly by most Manchester United fans.

United slumped to their worst-ever Premier League finish and were inexplicably dumped out of the Champions League group stage, but they just about salvaged things with a magnificent FA Cup triumph which steers them back to the Europa League for next season.

Here's a look back at United's 2023/24 campaign.

Alejandro Garnacho

In a bitterly disappointing season, a handful of players still managed to stand out, but Alejandro Garnacho took his stock to an entirely new level.

Hitting ten goals in all competitions, Garnacho jumped from an exciting youngster to a genuine Premier League talent, roaring up and down the wing to try and drag an often-lifeless United side to victory.

Only two outfield players racked up more minutes than Garnacho across all competitions as the Argentine firmly established himself as one of Erik ten Hag's most trustworthy options.

Honourable mentions: Kobbie Mainoo, Bruno Fernandes, Andre Onana

Alejandro Garnacho vs Everton

United actually scored some really nice goals this season, and yet this is the easiest selection in this entire review.

Not only was Garnacho's overhead kick against Everton the best goal United managed this season, but it could be the finest from the last decade. There have even been claims that this goal was the greatest the Premier League has ever seen.

A truly sensational strike which was deservedly named the Premier League Goal of the Season.

Honourable mentions: Bruno Fernandes vs Burnley, Bruno Fernandes vs Galatasaray, Marcus Rashford vs Man City, Kobbie Mainoo vs Liverpool

United saved the best for last as they ended the season with a huge victory over Manchester City in the FA Cup final.

Widely expected to be handed a humiliating whooping at Wembley, United subdued the Premier League champions with a real grace and efficiency that left many fans wondering why it took them until late-May to bring this level out.

They had to hang on at times, but that's to be expected against City and not something United have found particularly easy this year. By putting it all together and lifting the FA Cup, United gave fans something to smile about.

Honourable mentions: Man Utd 4-3 Liverpool, Man Utd 2-1 Chelsea

Andre Onana

An undeniably rocky start had many questioning whether Andre Onana was destined to be the next big-money flop at United, but as the calendar continued to turn, the goalkeeper's confidence grew and grew.

By the midway point in the campaign, when United decided they wanted to concede 1,000 shots every game, Onana became the busiest goalkeeper on the planet. In the Premier League, nobody made more than his 146 saves or topped his save percentage of 74.9%.

Considering just how bad things started off, Onana's resurgence was nothing short of astounding.

Honourable mention: Rasmus Hojlund

Your average United fan did not know who Kobbie Mainoo was last year, but his name is on everyone's lips this time around.

Not only did Mainoo make the jump up to senior football this season, but he did it so effortlessly. The 19-year-old quickly made himself the focal point of United's midfield and was vital to the Red Devils' attempts to salvage anything from this season.

An England call-up was the least Mainoo deserved for his outstanding campaign.

Honourable mention: Alejandro Garnacho

Casemiro

It speaks volumes of United's season that a handful of players could take this unwanted honour with very few complaints, but it's hard to argue that anybody saw their stock tumble quite like Casemiro.

The 32-year-old, widely seen as one of the best in the world in his positions just a few years ago, has fans screaming for his sale after a campaign which saw him struggle horribly at the base of United's midfield.

Casemiro remains one of the highest earners at Old Trafford, but it's clear his days at the club are numbered.

Dishonourable mentions: Antony, Marcus Rashford, Mason Mount
