It's official - Gareth Southgate is no longer the England manager.

Defeat in Sunday's Euro 2024 final to Spain proved to be his last game in charge of the Three Lions, and he announced his decision to stand down just two days later, releasing a statement to the public.

English football was in ruin when he took the job back in 2016, shortly after the country's infamous Euros exit to Iceland and Sam Allardyce's sacking after only one game in charge.

But should it be held against Southgate that he never managed to take such a talented core over the line?

So who will take the England job now? The FA are working on a replacement.

While a few names are already in the mix for the position on a permanent basis.

And what next for Southgate himself? Will he return to club management or does something else await him?

But for now, let's take the time to enjoy the work Southgate put in and the great job he did to rebuild the Three Lions.

For the Colombia penalty shootout win, for Kieran Trippier's free-kick, for beating Germany at Wembley, for making Harry Maguire a national hero, for Luke Shaw's thumper, for battering Wales in Qatar, for Jude Bellingham's overhead kick, for Ollie Watkins' clincher, for Cole Palmer's leveller.

It was one hell of a ride.
