Manchester United upset the odds by beating local rivals Manchester City 2-1 in the FA Cup final on Saturday afternoon.

The Red Devils have endured a tough campaign but earned a level of redemption with a resilient and ruthless display against Pep Guardiola's disjointed side.

It was Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo who produced the goals for Man Utd, who avenged their FA Cup final defeat to Man City last season despite Jeremy Doku's late strike.

Here is how X users reacted to events at Wembley.

There was a sense of dread among a large swell of Man Utd supporters prior to kick-off. Having heard the news that Erik ten Hag is likely to be sacked regardless of the outcome of the final and with Man City in devastating form, expectations were not high among supporters.

Man City made the brighter start at Wembley and could have been handed a penalty after just a minute, Lisandro Martinez bumping into Erling Haaland from behind in the box.

However, not everyone was in agreement about the referee's decision to let the game play on.

Against the odds and the possession statistics, it was actually Man Utd who took the lead, and they were given an almighty helping hand from their rivals to sneak in front.

A long punt up the pitch was headed back towards Stefan Ortega in the Man City goal by Josko Gvardiol, but the Croatian looped the ball over his own goalkeeper for Garnacho to race in and pass into an empty net.

But the Man Utd doubters prior to kick-off were stunned into silence before half-time as Ten Hag's men doubled their advantage just nine minutes later.

A swift move ended with Bruno Fernandes picking Mainoo out with a delicate pass and the teenage sensation produced a calm finish to send the red half of Wembley wild.

Man City started to show their true colours after the restart as they pushed Man Utd deeper and deeper into their own half.

Erling Haaland came closest shortly after half-time when he thundered a strike off the crossbar, with Kyle Walker also bringing a fine save out of Andre Onana.

Having just been praised for a fine stop, Onana quickly undid his hard work with another mistake. Doku's near-post strike shouldn't have beaten the former Inter stopper, but his right palm wasn't strong enough to keep the shot out.

But it mattered little to Man Utd supporters after seven nervy minutes of stoppage time, with the Red Devils holding on for a hard-fought victory at Wembley.

Not only was it a 13th triumph in the competition and a spot in the Europa League guaranteed for next season, it was an FA Cup final victory against their bitter rivals.

There is nothing sweeter than that.
