Barcelona manager Hansi Flick has admitted he does not know whether new signing Dani Olmo will be registered with La Liga in time for Saturday's clash with Athletic Club.
Barca parted with €60m to sign Olmo from RB Leipzig earlier this summer but issues with their salary cap meant the Spain international could not be registered in time for their La Liga opener against Valencia.
Even following Ilkay Gundogan's departure, Barca are not believed to be able to register Olmo, who faces spending another weekend on the sidelines as his side prepare to take on Athletic.
Asked for an update on the situation, Flick confessed: "It's not my job [to deal with registrations], but he's ready to play.
"I hope he'll be in the team tomorrow and can help us. We're waiting for that. He's ready. That's good for us because he's a player who makes the difference, that's what we can see when he feels pressure in front of goal. It's good to have him in the team as soon as possible."
Much of the narrative heading into the fixture has revolved around Athletic winger Nico Williams, who was one of Barca's top targets earlier this summer before they turned their attention to Olmo.
Williams, who is believed to have committed his immediate future to Athletic, has established himself as one of La Liga's most dangerous forwards, but Flick believes Barcelona can contain him.
"We have players with a lot of experience, Jules [Kounde]-can take care of him," Flick stressed.
"It is not my job to talk about a player from the opposing team, we will focus on playing against him and Jules will have a good game."
