In-form Man Utd centre-back ruled out of Fenerbahce trip
- Jonny Evans is a doubt for Man Utd's game against Fenerbahce
- The centre-back has impressed in recent weeks
- Matthijs de Ligt looks set to feature despite head injury
Manchester United have left Jonny Evans out of their travelling squad Thursday night's UEFA Europa League clash with Fenerbahce.
The veteran centre-back was drafted back into the United starting lineup for the recent crunch Premier League clash with Aston Villa, putting in a player of the match performance, and retained that place for the subsequent win over Brentford after the international break.
However, he suffered a knock against the Bees, coming ahead of the Europa League game against Jose Mourinho's Fenerbahce, and wasn't deemed fit enough for selection. The 36-year-old therefore didn't board Wednesday's flight to Istanbul among th 20-player group chose by Erik ten Hag.
While Evans has been ruled out, there is also plenty of other positive news for United fans. Knocks suffered by both Casemiro and Matthijs de Ligt in the Brentford win have not stopped the pair from training and travelling, with both looking likely to feature against Fenerbahce.
The injury crisis at full-back also looks set to be nearing its end too, with the club confirming that Tyrell Malacia took part in the full team training session at Carrington, while Luke Shaw continued his ongoing recovery with some individual work.
On Wednesday, Ten Hag had youngsters Harry Amass, Ruben Curley, Jack Kingdon, Sam Mather, Habeeb Ogunneye and Ethan Wheatley train with the first-team squad. Amass, Ogunneye and Wheatley were then part of the travelling group, although there was no place for Jack Fletcher, son of United legend Darren, only days after being chosen in a senior matchday squad for the first time.
United will be aiming for their first win of this Europa League campaign on Thursday, having taken draws with FC Twente and Porto in the competition so far.
